Early on, this book employs two tropes that I normally just can’t stand in these kinds of stories. A wise-ass sidekick and the whole ‘they’re A.Is not real people’ nonsense. The latter mentality thankfully phases out as the book progresses. There’s nothing more depressing than a vast world filled with pointless NPCs. The former was a pleasant surprise. I grew to really enjoy their relationship and how it evolves over the story. It added, as opposed to what such relationships normally do in fiction and detracted. I think my only negative is that the combat in raids is a little too World of Warcraft (formulaic and video gamey). I enjoyed the characters, the premise is great and I enjoyed the journey. Heartily recommend.
