I really enjoy this delightful, entertaining mystery series. I first started the series with the third book, so it was very nice to go back and catch up on the first two books. (Don’t worry, there is plenty of background in the third book that I knew how everything started, although I didn’t have the details.) This time around, Julia Fieldhurst is visiting in the country to avoid London after her husband’s death when another death occurs. Feeling that something is “fishy” (and looking for an excuse to see the dashing John Pickett again) she sends for him…and he comes. The slow-burn, socially prohibited romance continues to play out as John assumes the position of footman and displays his unique blend of investigative skill and curiosity. I had a suspicion as to who the murderer was and even a thought as to the why, but the clues don’t fit together until John lays all the evidence out. There is a second little side mystery too that brings a family together. One of the enjoyable parts of this mystery is that even the “villain” had good intentions, and that makes it very hard for John to do his duty.

The narration is wonderful as always with great accents and very distinct voices for each character. Mr. Froomkin does the female voices wonderfully. The women sound like women!

I received an ARC from the author through Audiobook Boom and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
