Yes, this is a harem novel – but there is no sex. At least, not in this part of the triogy. Instead, there’s just sexual tension between the protagonist and the four members of his adventuring party.

There is standard litRPG content, but this very rarely recites a tedious list of skills and attributes. There’s more of a focus on the plot.

There’s an interesting sci-fi aspect to this. It’s in the future. A military battleship sails into space. Our hero is a sysadmin, whose abilities become much more relevant when the crew, while physically in hibernation in their pods, end up immersed in a virtual reality game that has become much more realistic. Oh, and then there’s the standard stereotype of “if you die here, you die in real life”. But there are interesting ethical questions raised in the story.

Not my favorite William Arand novel, but plenty enjoyable. I’ll look forward to the rest of the trilogy.
