After 5 years apart, will River and Zeph finally grab the future they want with each other? Featuring opposites-attract with a second chance at love, ‘Freak’ tells the story of rekindled romantic feelings between femme make-up artist (and part-time drag queen) River and MMA fighter Zeph, who has recently returned to LA for training. They each must work out their commitment-phobic tendencies before getting their happily-ever-after.
The well-drawn characters in their true-to-fife stories is what draws me to Davies’ books. There’s a great blend of everyman-ness inside a setting that is maybe unfamiliar to many readers. Zeph and River strive to find their worth in the world, and, despite fears and personal demons, hope for love and acceptance with another person. The stories are written with heart-felt emotion, but not with excessive angst. Davies delivers another well-told story here.
Narrator, Joel Leslie, gives the listener another well-voiced performance. His natural reading cadence enhances the enjoyment of this great story.
I have voluntarily written my opinion of ‘Freak’ by E Davies after requesting and receiving a free review copy of it.
