If my kids were still young, this book would be an awesome bedtime listening ritual. First off, you can NEVER go wrong with a Harmon Cooper book, and I will listen to anything Travis Baldree narrates (Audible MVP 2020 in my opinion), so when the two hooked up to put out an audiobook, I preordered it immediately. This is a story about a dad and his two boys as they try to make a way for themselves in a new home. The LitRPG elements are EXTREMELY light. In fact if it wasn’t for the characters being NPC’s, they wouldn’t need to exist at all, but the way it’s put together is very pleasing and shouldn’t turn you off to this book. There are almost no stats in comparison to crunchy LitRPG novels. This is a YA novel with zero cringy teenage romance scenarios. They’re kids adventuring an island over summer break with their dad. That being said, it’s a story that a lot of adults would love. I’m 40 and really enjoyed this. It brought a lot of nostalgia from memories of my brothers and I riding our bikes for miles to buy slush puppies, going on adventures down the railroad tracks, etc. Perfect book for car trips with your family, or if you just feel like taking a trip down memory lane. It was fun. Please continue this series Harmon. And Thank You for this story!
