The characters in this book are one-dimensional. The hero of the book is actually not sympathetic. There are endless and tedious descriptions of gameplay. It is amazing that anybody decided that reading all of the status notices for the game was necessary in the audiobook – that could have been edited out or or at least trimmed for length. The narrator was wrong choice for this book. The main character is an 18-year-old young man and the narrator sounds much older, not to mention a little board with the whole affair. I managed to get through this one but will not be reading any others. Any comparison to Ready Player One is unfortunate.
