Marie’s just been accused of cheating and thrown out of her doctorate program. What else can she do but turn to a life opposite of everything else she’s known? She goes to her first bar and manages to down 1/2 of a tequila shot before getting dance on the bar and flirt with a stranger drunk. Luckily, the stranger turns out to be Jared, a hunky billionaire who needs to get married fast. What starts as a hookup turns to a marriage of convenience and then to something more.
Is it possible to smile for 2 hours straight? Marie’s inner dialogue is hilarious! I’ll never look at a Big Mac the same way again. Elise Sax has the ability to make me laugh on just about every page without the humor being forced. True talent.
The relationship between Jared and Marie went from cute and charming, to hot and steamy, to sweet and considerate. I loved how Jared just rolled with Marie’s quirkiness and never made her feel silly. I wished we could spend more time with his awesome grandparents and her father, but the little scenes they did have were like chocolate chips in cookie dough, they just made everything sweeter.
Angie Hickman was absolutely perfect as Marie, her voice just fit Marie’s personality so well. She didn’t attempt a male voice for Jared, just used a normal speaking voice, so nothing sounded forced. Her timing on the humor was impeccable. I was provided a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. This is my third Elise Sax book and I’m still in love with her writing, I can’t wait for Layla’s story!
