The book does a good job of painting a very dysfunctional family and the life of Elizabeth short, as well as her death. I was unable to finish the book because half way through I could not listen to the author tell me one more time how his father had been this great man in his eyes, atleast until he suddenly thinks him guilty for murder. His father wasn’t a great man he sexually assaulted his daughter and granddaughter, then used his reputation to destroy his victims life so that she wound up locked away not him. It’s like this police officer doesn’t understand his father who preyed upon the underage females in his family hadn’t committed a sin, when he knows this is a certain fact. But when he suspects he might have been involved with the black dahlia murder that’s the thing which lets him see his dad as a bad man. Ugg.
