This isn’t about Kay mourning her old life and friends and trying to accept what has happened to her. We don’t even get much of a glimpse of that old life to even care that much. Ander has forced a new life on Kat, and claimed her without actually claiming her (well, that’s not going to be problematic later). But Kat is defiant, even when she’s accepting of her fate, she doesn’t like being told what to do, and Ander is used to getting what he wants as sector Alpha. It’s essentially a battle of the wills, and they both have to give up something to win. The evolution of their relationship was interesting, and I enjoyed the push and pull. The secondary characters were great, as well. I was especially fond of Riley. Not just with Kat and Ander, but with all of them, the Alpha/Omega dynamic was so interesting. Alphas being the leaders, in charge, but Omegas, even though they are essentially the lowest “rank”, are revered and respected for their rarity and what they can do for the Alphas. It makes for some intriguing situations, and brings a new twist to the story that makes it that much more interesting as events unfold. Kat is no pushover, holding her own when push comes to shove, as well. And their chemistry is electric. A very good standalone book to start this series that gives a glimpse of what’s to come in the other books of the series as well.
