I’ve listened to several series by Boyd Craven III and this is the most interesting trajectory of any. I never could have imagined this would be like it was. I envisioned a post EMP story, much like the most excellent Still Surviving series, or the Opus series, to name a few. But boy does this shake you out of that complacency. This is about Dick, a vet with serious PTSD, who survives a world post-EMP. That’s one thing with the story. I will say that this ominous does get confusing sometimes when he’s going from flashbacks to the present. The reader has no idea what’s going on. And is it real? One never knows. That’s the world of addiction and visceral flashbacks. Who even is Dick?? That’s something that will have to be found out…but what a ride in the process.
Kevin Pierce works great with Boyd. He always has. It’s a perfect union. And this book is no exception. An all around exciting read.
