I honestly do not understand how people could rate this book so high.. Beginning to think a large number of the reviews are fake.

I really enjoyed the setting up that the first book did. It originally created a great world and gave room to bring about some unique challenges that set this series apart from other litRPGs. The story itself fell flat this time round with little creativity. I reviewed the first book and griped about the authors take on the stereotypical military grunt and its use throughout, very minor gripe. The same continues to hold true in this book. I also stated how I liked that the author toned down litRPGs over-tendency to incorporate swearing and pop culture references… That went out the window in this book. Seems that the MC has become much less dignified in this book and has taken on the typical litRPG MC persona. He says inappropriate/stupid things constantly, makes unconventional decisions in certain situations which really don’t make sense given the better alternatives that were offered (i.e. home-made sticky bomb over flamethrower), and for some reason carries on with the mentality that this is still a game rather than his new life. The MC essentially transformed into a 12 year old with access to a microphone playing a video game… We all know the type. It also annoys me a bit that a specific character has “no memories” outside of the game, but still says stuff like “IRL …” while also understanding a few of the MCs pop culture references. So many inconsistencies appearing in this book. The MC’s harem begins to grow and even takes a somewhat weird turn with his dragon. I still enjoyed the career path that the MC was taking as it stands out from the typical classes RPGs force players to conform to, but everything else much less so than the first book.

The narrators were still top-notch in my opinion, Unfortunately, the source material made for some cringe worthy moments. I’d like to see them together again on a different project worth their skills.
