Full disclosure, I only made it a few hours into the book. Minor plot spoilers follow.

The story has a good premise, guy finds out he’s kind of magic in an otherwise normal world. Except, turns out he’s always had a form of magic(the name of the book is a hint) and his family knows about it too, they just discourage it. And instead of making bank as an interpreter, he hides it because he “doesn’t want to be different”.

From finding out magic is real during a “mugging”, getting a finger broken by members of a mysterious organization, running through the woods, murder, etc, our main character does NOT stop complaining. Or even really commit to any course of action, needing to almost literally be dragged from plot point to plot point by a robber turned ally. It’s agonizingly frustrating to listen to so I’m giving up on it. Hope this review saves others the time I wasted.
