The protagonist is also a complete moron. He stumbles over a god tier alien artifact that is actively sought after by bad guys and the first thing he does is go to a place where everyone seems to know and despise him since he own everyone money, seemingly on principle.
He could have bought enough fuel to get to the next system where he can easily do anything without being remembered or bothered.
He has an unbearable flippant attitude and oozes a complete lack of responsible or rational behavior.
Americans seem to like dumbass idiot heroes who get away with pretty much anything (since that mirrors real life), but it is just as obnoxious to normal thinking people
