I’m familiar with both this author and narrator and separately they’re great, I was very excited for this story, but the audio is terrible. And I mean just lord awful narration. I was so disappointed and honestly I’m doubtful I’ll get the next book. I feel like this was a waste of my money…
The narrator just wasn’t well suited for this type of story. He has decent emotive qualities I guess….but his vocal range is extremely limited. almost all the characters sound the same. It all becomes monotonous and blends together and just seems to drag one. At some point you lose track and are like “what am I even listening to”. And for some reason the narrator is adding this sort of raspy sound to all the voices, I guess in an effort to make the characters all seem tough, but in stead it just makes them all sound old and sickly and it’s very distracting.
Quite honestly… the narrator ruined this entire series for me now and I wish the book had been done by almost anybody else. It’s not even a pleasant word flow to listen to. this leaves me extremely frustrated. Especially since I know the narrator is well suited in other stories much better as far as characters go. I hope to GOD that he never narrates for this author again because he ruined her book. I’m just really upset about it.
