The wizard wars go into full Battle Royale mode, similar to GoT so, Game of Gemstones, then. Jeffrey L. Kohanek continues the series with our small fellowship of protagonists fleeing from one deadly encounter toward another, leaving dead wizard lords in their wake. Jace and Narine’s relationship has some ups and downs but seemingly moving in a forward direction. The group take on new companions and the author also includes some infantry siege buildups to accompany an ample amount of back-stabbing in the figurative and literal sense. I have mixed feeling with the Eldalain story arc, however. While I appreciated the backstory provided regarding his ruthless childhood, I was disappointed with the lessening of his involvement afterward.

There are also several twists in the book as the story unfolds, one near the end that wasn’t all that surprising but one that seems to not bode well for our merry band of protagonists.

Also, what of the ring?

Travis Baldree’s performance is a joy to experience.
