There are few partnerships in the audiobook world that bring me as much joy as these. Joel Leslie brings the characters and worlds of SJ Himes to life in a way no one else could. His ability to bring nuance and emotions to characters of all dialects and accents is phenomenal. Pairing those talents with the world building and exceptional characters in this story creates another fantabulous listen. Whether you love listening to the mighty snark of the Salvatore brothers or the hot and spicy accents of their love interests, or just enjoy listening to the worlds SJ Himes has put on the page, you can’t go wrong with this book and/or series.

Below is my original review of the e-book.

While this book has the same hard hitting, sarcastic and powerful characters we’ve all come to love, this time around we see everything through the eyes and hearts of Isaac and Constantine. And just WOW. The depth of research of history, for the background of Constans, and the toll addiction has on a person, for Isaac, is astounding. And to be able to take that information and make it work in this fantastical world of magic… well, once again, this author shows her remarkable talent.

Isaac is no longer the belligerent kid brother who does things just for spite, acting out from his fears and guilt of the past. I so enjoyed watching him learn how to be this Isaac, reconnecting with his brother and Daniel, while the budding romance with Constans takes shape. Coming to terms with this new normal, both Isaac and Angel have to let go of the past and watching them become the brothers they are supposed to be is extremely moving.

We already knew that there was so much more to Constantine, Master of the City, than meets the eye. I mean, he is over two millennia old. Getting to see his last days as a mortal and what he went through just before, and after, the change gives us so much more insight into the vampire he is now.

This book has everything we’ve come to expect from SJ Himes; action, sarcastic heroes and hot romance. Isaac and Constans definitely bring the heat, even more than Isaac’s own fire affinity. I am in love with this series and these characters, and this book is just sheer perfection.
