I only discovered this author in March, 2020, with The Others. This is my second book and I’ve decided his writing style is right up my alley of weird, sci-fi, action, dark humor, trippiness. He has a knack for writing X-Files plots that are thrilling, supernatural, and yet still feel somewhat realistic. He has a wicked dry sense of humor and appreciates both historical and pop culture call backs. Oh, and he tends to have tough guy protagonists made for awesome narrators like RC Bray and Kafer.

This book starts in modern day Kentucky, at a secretive facility along the Appalachians, but progressively moves backwards through time along several different genres of sci-fi, military/battle action, and horror. I feel like this story would be right at home as a movie with some of the same cheesy vibes as the 80’s films referenced in the book. In addition to creative stories, Robinson writes cool characters. I loved Owen, Cassie, and Kowalski. A perfect book for a summer “blockbuster” story. Even if it starts a bit slow, the final third is a rewarding thrill ride.

Suspend disbelief a bit, grab the popcorn, and enjoy.
