There are many reviews that seem to be upset by the ending of this book. I guess if you thought this was a trilogy then yeah that ending could be seen as abrupt and lackluster. However this is the 3rd book in an ongoing series and i thought that ending was pretty well foreshadowed and exactly where this story was headed. Sure it was like the Halo 2 ending or Empire Strikes Back where it stops on a cliffhanger when you want to keep moving on with the story, but that’s pretty standard and i thought this was done well, like the 2 I mentioned (though i was really annoyed with Halo at the time). The only bad thing is I thought book four was already out, which it is, just not for Audible. So now i will have to wait or, you know, read.

Story: Starts basically where the last one left off. Main Character needs to rebuild before next attack. He does not spend a lot of time in the village this time but in and NPC town trying to get resources. The NPCs in that town seem slightly less NPCish than in other books in the series. Ther is not a lot of other PCs except one team from the previous books in small chapters. It is a little annoying that the main character keeps making the same stupid mistakes of overconfidence as in past books but it is good that the standard consequences mostly do not materialize. The ending is basically a cliffhanger.

Characters: I like the characters, which is weird because they sometimes do morally bad things (imo) and i am more oriented to “heros”. for the most part the protagonist does do heroic things, defending his clan and all, but yeah the evil god thing is kind of hard to get past. “It’s just a game”, but when i play games i can never convince myself to be dark side. Heck i have problems killing wolf cubs or even dodo or any non-aggressive dino in ark. Still, i found i liked the characters, not enough of my favorite PC twins though.

Narration: Really good. The main narrator is not in my top tier but certainly no where close to bad and I found the addition of the the female narrator (showed up in book 2 i believe) and some special effects to be surprisingly nice.

Overall i really enjoyed the book and the series and am looking forward to the next one.
