This was one of those stories where we are able to figure out within the first half hour what the story will be about and who the good guys and bad guys are. That’s okay, though, because the author takes us along on a campy horror romp with plenty of blood and gore. If you’re willing to let the author stretch plausibility a bit to get the players arranged on the chessboard at the right place and time, you’ll be rewarded with some unpredictability as the plot unfolds. A popular trope in horror is that mean people (bullies, snobs, bitchy ex-boy/girlfriends, abusive parents, etc.) die horrible deaths, so the moral of the story is: don’t be a jerk, because you never know if the person you’re being a jerk to is a psycho killer who will exact revenge at some future point. A codicil to this is that you might actually be a non-jerk person but a psycho killer might misinterpret something you said or did and target you anyway. I like that kind of irony. The narration was good, and it was easy to get caught up in the story (I increased playback speed slightly to suit my personal preferences).

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
