I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.
This is the second book in the Peas and Carrots series. It is not a standalone book and ends on a cliffhanger. This is not the book to start the series as it is important to understand the characters portrayed in this book and their relationships/development, which all starts in the first book, “Peas, Carrots, and an Aston Martin.” I highly recommend you start with the first book.
The second book focuses on the Sibley family as they start to renovate their home and much to Eric’s chagrin, his mother-in-law shows up and moves in. The story is filled with humorous real-life moments [such as Eric seeing his mother-in-law in a very private moment] and some very heartbreaking moments. The author really gets you to invest in these characters so their joys become your joys and their sadness becomes your sadness. Sometimes as Eric is trying to work through his family issues and trying to do the right thing, you want to cheer for him for everything to work out. But unfortunately, as in real life, not everything is “wine and roses” for the Sibley family, making them very human and very relatable. Highly recommend this series.
The narrator, Rafe Beckley, is the same throughout the series and I cannot imagine Eric Sibley being voiced by anyone else. His voice is smooth with a light British accent with just the right amount of cheekiness.
