Better than some other books in the genre. Unlike the other Bagwell books, the narrator finally sounds like it could represent the age of the protagonist. I liked the character and the magic. it was entertaining and mostly enjoyable.

Things I didn’t like include; Some of the game functions seemed really unlikely…. like people writing programs on their home computers that give them in game pets without having to do anything to earn them. The stats don’t really mean anything in this book. Every so often we are told that a character levels up 10-15 times without ever explaining how this is helpful. Also the quests are terrible. It’s so annoying to get a quest prompt that just summarizes what I just listened to. So boring.
