I can’t recommend this series enough. The world building is amazing, the nuanced descriptions pull you into the exact imagery intended (i.e. loud and obnoxious “as a high school percussion section”), and the overall flow of the story is incredible. I always liked the genre of stories that someone is transported to another world, but not since Ted Dekker The Circle series have I found one that also transported them back and forth between the “real” and “fantasy” worlds. This one does it perfectly, with some awesome powers that carry over. I love my books on Audible due to long commutes and travel times with work and Jeff Hays does amazing work with these characters and really brings them to life. The author (Charles) is also very responsive and appreciative to fans. I am very glad someone recommended this series.
The final book in this series (book 5) just released so you can now get the full story on Audible. I am currently in the middle of 8+ ongoing series so it is nice to get one of them concluded albeit sad.
