I’ll be honest. I was really interested in the idea of the book when I first read the summary. I liked the novelty of the main character being the “bad guy”. parts of the book were definitely good, I’ll give it that.
Spoilers ahead.
The issue is the speed of the book and the ending. The intro book to a series shouldn’t end in the main character becoming the ruler of a city, founding a race, and destroying the combined army of humanity. It’s a ridiculous jump from level 1 to the ruler of a nation. And the repeated claims from the developers watching in awe at his “tactics”. This isn’t 3D chess. He’s using tactics a 12 year old could understand. Flank your enemy, guerilla warfare, attack when they are weakest. You’re telling me none of the millions of players have ever flanked an enemy?
Also the voice actor sounds like he’s 70. He was not the right choice to be playing a predominantly high school cast.
