I can’t help but compare it to Aleron Kong’s books. (Which are super fun when he’s not being a creep.) Those books are great to listen to partly because of the excellent narrator, and Jeff Hays does his best to breathe some life into these characters.
I kind of feel like the main character Ed is a little lame. When he shines is when he’s strategic… but other than that he’s pretty dang lame. I just like the formula!! Leveling up… discovering secrets and gaining powerful allies is cool. I was rooting for his little pack of noobs the whole way.
I’m interested to see where the story goes, so I’ll try the next book and hope Ed finds his footing.
