His Truth was a very melancholy, heartbreaking, yet hopeful second chance romance. My heart hurt through pretty much the entire book. Joel Leslie is so good at wringing the emotions out of me- hearing some of those scenes brought to life was rough, really rough. I’m sure reading this book would have been tough, but listening to it was really brought the emotions home. Many tears were shed!

This definitely isn’t an easy listen, by any stretch of the imagination. Roman and Leo both had pretty crappy childhoods, for such different reasons, which ultimately affected the way they each lived their lives. It was so completely heart-wrenching to hear what Roman went through at the hands of his father and brother. Leo had to deal with distant and absentee parents, and while not anywhere near as bad as the abuse Roman was subjected to, that can definitely mess with a person.

I do love a second chance romance and I was really happy Roman and Leo found each other again. After repressing who he was for so long, it did seem like he was able to jump into things with Leo, and I’m speaking sexually here, a little too quickly, He had so much he needed to come to terms with, I worried about him- with good reason. But I’m so glad he had Leo, and Amy, there for him.

There’s a heaviness about this book that didn’t really lessen as the story went on. Not to say it wasn’t enjoyable, which is kind of a odd word to use for this book, but His Truth isn’t the book to grab if you’re looking for something light-hearted and fun, or if you need a break from the real world, This one will hit all the feels.
