So, from the description of the book, I expected this to be a litrpg. Instead, it was a romance. I don’t mind romance, but for the first 8 to 9 hours that’s all the book is. The main character Cerys also acts like she has a split personality and swings all over the place between liking/disliking Idris. The author tried to make a strong female character, which she describes well. The problem is the story doesn’t let Cerys really doing anything truly amazing.

Honestly, I was bored the entire book. I wanted things to pick up. Give me a battle or something. The LITRPG elements aren’t even delved into until maybe hour 12. And even then, it’s very brief.

Additionally, the characterization of the humans was ludicrous. Yes, they’re supposed to be the bad guys; however, they’re painted as so obviously evil in every manner, that it just seems to contrived, especially with regards to the kings adviser.

I’ve listened to almost all of the book. The only singular spectacular high point is the narration. The soundbooth theater team is absolutely phenomenal here. That’s the only reason I continued with the book.

It’s rare that I finish a book on audible and feel like I want my credit back. This is one of those books.
