I didn’t mind the performance that much, but Jordan’s self centered attitude grated on me immensely. When Max was like “not everything revolves around you” and Jordan had the nerve to get mad at that, I was like YOU’RE JUST PROVING HIS POINT. I could not stand him. Also, I did not like the portrayal of Jordan’s mom and making her out to be a irredeemable monster. Really? We’re gonna villainize people with mental illness, while trying to have nuanced themes of social justice?
I did, however, like Max and Max’s mom. But one person cannot carry the enjoyment of an entire relationship for me and I just felt they didn’t have chemistry. Do I like the concept? Sure, nerd/emo and jock is an excellent combination, but this execution just did not do it for me.
