If you’ve read through more than 5 reviews then you probably noticed the extremes. people loved or hated. I held off on getting this book for that reason but I’m not really disappointed in pulling the trigger. I think I know why people hated it so to explain,
STORY: The 3rd book goes deeper into the RPG side of the story. the people who hated it for the story most likely are not into rpg games that much I assume. Just like RPG games theres a Main quest or goal and there is 100s of side quest. some side guest further your progress towards your main Quest. This book is exactly that, A side quest that when complete, will get him to where he needs to be. Seems like a dumb and unnecessary quest BUT not all quest can be life changers. The problem here is it wasnt really explained what he was after or why until much later and in the end it seems like a whole lot of effort for something not super important. an entire books worth to be exact.
the ending did feel a bit abrupt and not at all in the direction you thought it would but that could be a good thing.
Narrative; For some AWFUL reason, they decided to go heavy in the YA side and add oddly placed sound effects and theme music. annoying. I like having multiple readers but that’s it. quality starts off subpar but picks up after a chapter or 2 bit sound effects are random and throughout. stupid.
All in all it’s still worth listening to if you liked the 1st 2 books. If there is a 4th, I’m clueless as to where it’s going but I want to find out so obviously the book did its job and keep me engaged.
