So I am going to start off with the bad, but there is some good at the end, hence the 3 star.
First thing that really bothers me, Very inconsistent in ideology. The dungeon for some reason doesn’t want to kill humans except if it doesn’t like them then it wants nothing more than to murder them as gruesome as it can be because justice!!! Then it wants to level up the good humans!!!, not because it cares for them but because it wants to kill them at higher levels to get more xp, WAIT WHAT>?! even though it just said it feels sorry every time it kills a human and really doesn’t want to kill… Then you have a pity party between the core and fairy every other chapter about people who die but then they are forgotten in like 5 seconds after the guilt as if there really isn’t any guilt at all…
Second, the pixy is like the dumb co-worker you have who can’t do their job and plays the emotionally moody card every time they are called about why they didn’t do their job right, and it is really their fault. Then the author decides that because the pixy is female (and apparently the core is some how male even though it has no sex) the core needs to cower like….. all husbands do??? Didn’t you know that all husbands are stupid and useless and cower before a female!!! and be all like “I am sorry angry female is right because they are angry and female.” Because that co-worker some how becomes a wife you were forced to marry and for some reason she just plays you over and over again to get what she wants, and the author just does this like all women are like this. I feel this is really insulting to women, as this “stupid angry female” stereo type is out of control. Also that he thinks this stereo type is what marriage is like. It isn’t… Women are not like how the pixy is portrayed and men aren’t how the core is portrayed. Which is just s scared child because women use, as the author portrays… their “scubas ways” of manipulation and emotional control to infuse them with fear and admit their wrong event when they are right because the woman is angry and you can’t win!!!! Yeah I am just going to leave it as that.
IF you can get over the really bad relationship portrayal of the pixy and the core and the fact that the core is really just a pity party annoying failure at life. Everything is actually really great… Like really good.
It is such a dichotomy of how awesome the rest of the book is it is startling. Everything else about the book is really well done thought out and the characters are awesome. BUT… Every time the book gets really great!!! Then stupid core and fairy ruin it with stupid… It was a real love / hate to finish this book. The rest of this book was good enough to try the next but if the next book keeps up with the amount of stupid shown by the core and pixy I will just have to stop.
Last, sound booth continues to drop the ball with music that doesn’t work and stupid background noises that makes you want to rip your ears out. Like crickets… every .5 seconds for the entire chapter… not an exaggeration it is chapter 20 if you are wondering and yes the ENTIRE chapter… every .5 seconds the stupid cricket sound going off with no pause….
