Imagine if Fox News or your family member with troubling opinions on ‘what’s wrong with the world” decided to write a novel where every conservative bogeyman and conspiracy theory came true.
Here are some things to look forward to:
* Our hero unironically encourages his son to not be a “soy boy”.
* Almost every bad guy is an illegal immigrant or of foreign descent.
* Almost every female character is raped/sexually assaulted or threatened with it (always by a POC or illegal immigrant)
* Crime is blamed on “Sanctuary Cities” or gun safety laws (or both).
* Be prepared to roll your eyes out of their sockets when extremely high-risk gang members are released from custody and immediately kill an immigration agent’s family (as if risk evaluations don’t exist)
* The pejorative immigration phrase “Catch and Release” is used, even by immigrant children (who are also portrayed as criminals / rapists).
* ICE is just a hard-workin’ bunch of heroes trying to survive in the world’s most dangerous city, Chicago.
It’s a shame because the author seems talented and could write a really compelling story (and the narration is great), but his personal politics is wildly distracting from the core plot (or is perhaps the point of the story?)
