I bought this book immediately after finishing another Jack Olsen book called Doc. I absolutely loved Doc.
I’m a true crime junkie, (Murderino), through-and-through & I couldn’t put it down. I finished it in 2.5 days. I love Olsen’s style of storytelling, & the narration was a perfect fit.
However, I’m disappointed after finishing this one, (Cold Kill).
Although it’s told in the same style, with the same narrator…I felt like the whole mid-section dragged. I just don’t think there was enough story to justify 12.5 hours. The beginning kept my attention, but after that I’d find myself having to rewind over & over after my mind had wandered off to something else. After a few times of actually listening to what I had just rewinded, I realized I could’ve fast-forwarded about 6 hours, & not missed anything important.
The last hour or 2 had me listening intently again. This really is a good story, with interesting subjects, the book is just way too long…& I usually prefer long books, but only if the extra length is necessary & interesting.
I’m going to purchase another Jack Olsen book right now & try again. I really do love his style.
Fingers crossed.
