Written as the spiritual successor to Firefly, narrated like the smoothest pilot you’ve never met but wish you had…
This is the best sci fi fantasy I have heard in years. It’s well thought out, nothing drags – it all has a purpose, and all loose ends are wrapped up as they should be – in a realistic and confounding way befitting of the true human experience.
There are no cheap plot devices. There are no Deus ex machina, at least, not before being lamp-shaded and lampooned as such beforehand. The characters are well developed and have clear arcs and internal contradictions. The world building is spectacular. And the plot is full of wonderful surprises as a matter of course, without the surprises being the point. It’s about how flawed characters interact in a flawed universe, and just barely skate by.
The author put in great content and structure and truly understands the art of storytelling, without taking himself too seriously. The narrator was perfect. Don’t ruin this series 300 years later by turning into a cheap episodic holovid!
