I want to start off by saying I really enjoyed the first one and had a great cliffhanger at the end in all. My problem is that even though he was a jerk and an asshole in the first one, his sarcasm brought a certain charm to the book. I could only get a couple hours into this one though. The story is really good, same as the first and Jeff Hays is still the best LitRPG Narrator out there in my opinion.
The problem with me is the MC. There really is no other character in this series that you can really connect with. Daggers is good but one dimensional. Bear is only character I think I could give a damn about, but he is stupid. The reason the MC is just dragging on me is that he has now gathered the “smartest guy in the room” trait. All others around him are stupid and he has to give them a bone a lot to make them feel smart. That really grated on me. So on top of being a bully and an asshole… now he is the smartest and really he is already top 4 to 5 in the underworld. He could be number 1 which wouldnt surprise me. He is just a shit to everyone which made me not want to care to listen to more and also make me feel sad reading the book. I get it that he has certain attitude given his situation, however, where has before he had a good charm working for him now he has no morality or virtue. Love the story, Love the narration, but don’t care about the characters.
