If you liked the other books in the series, you’ll like this one.

I wasn’t a big fan of how rushed the development of Finn was in this book. The setting is interesting, his backstory is interesting, the magic system is interesting, but we don’t get to take our time experiencing any of these things. It’s just a mad dash for Finn to leave the tutorial area he’s in, and as a result side characters get no real development, and Finn’s journey kind of feels like the journey of a Gary Sue. The book was still enjoyable, though I almost wish this book had been split into two separate books, with a lot more time spent on the characters and journey.

I still gave it a high review though, and think it’s a solid addition to the series; but it’s not on the same level as the main books by any means.
