I had a good time with this book. After listening to the first book in the series, I was pretty eager to see what would happen next to Austin, Savannah and the rest of the group. This is a series that needs to be read in order since it is a continuation of the same overall story arc with each book building on the previous installment. I thought that this was a very well done installment.

This book had a bit of a different feel. The shock of the EMP has passed and the group has made it to a place that should be safe so their focus has shifted to learning to live together and be self-sufficient. This is a big group and they don’t necessarily blend together easily so just living together is going to take a lot of work. It was really quite interesting to hear the plans they were making on how to survive and sustain such a large group.

There was some excitement to keep things interesting as well. Most of the action occurred later in this book but I enjoyed the lead-up. It sometimes seems that this group just cannot catch a break. They have to try to figure out if the data they hold could make a difference and stop the group responsible for the EMP and they have to fight to stay safe. It seems like there is one challenge after another.

Maxwell Zener did a great job with this book. I think that he stayed really consistent with the character voices that he used in the two books in the series. This series has a really large cast of characters and I love how varied and unique each voice was. I thought that he added a lot of excitement and emotion into the reading.

I would recommend this book to fans of apocalypse stories. This was a very enjoyable addition to the series with a nice balance of action and emotional scenes. I look forward to reading more of this exciting series.
