This is my first book by this author and it will not be my last. Dark City is a dark urban fantasy with all the requisite magic, vampires, demons, ghouls, zombies… that we expect from stories in this genre but it also has some inspired world-building and the main character, Morgan Rook, is intriguing. His past is a mystery, even to him, but as the story unfolds we get some hints that he is, perhaps, so much more than just a low-level apprentice employed by The Organization to rid the streets of dangerous paranormal beings. Prepare yourself for a fast-paced story with lots of action to keep you glued to your seat in anticipation of what catastrophic manner of mayhem will befall Morgan next. I will definitely be continuing on with this series as it offered a great story, superior world-building, fascinating characters, and just the right dash of snarky humor. I read along with the audio version of this story and must commend the narrator, Shawn Compton, on his stellar performance. He is able to convey the emotions of the characters and his pace is appropriate to each situation. The combined talents of the author and narrator made this a highly enjoyable experience that I highly recommend to enthusiasts of this genre.
