Having previously listened to the Sword of Light trilogy from Aaron Hodges, I was excited to dive back into the Three Nations. This trilogy was a great adventure with some familiar faces, but you can easily jump in here having not read the previous series and not be lost. I would suggest trying it out, though, because if you liked this trilogy, you will love the Sword of Light trilogy as well.

This trilogy takes place a century after the events of the Sword of Light trilogy and a new evil has risen in the form of the Tsar, a powerful and merciless ruler who has outlawed magic. All magic-wielders are conscripted into the Tsar’s service or killed. The Legend of the Gods tells the tale of Alana and her brother, on the run since the emergence of his magic, and Devon, a former war hero, now disgraced. Their lives will intersect and the Three Nations will never be the same.

I loved the Sword of Light trilogy and the Legend of the Gods is no different. It’s more of the great magical world that Aaron built in the previous trilogy. The characters are interesting and not cookie-cutter characters. Aaron does a great job of crafting a world that is interesting and where the characters have consequences for their actions. I’m excited to see that there’s a new series that takes place in the same world after this one. I can’t wait to read more of the Three Nations in light of how this trilogy ends.

David Stifel does a great job with this narration, as he did with the first trilogy. His narration is fun to listen to and he does a great job of handling multiple characters.
