Dark City is the first book in The Order of Shadows series by Kit Hallows. This is an urban fantasy series along the lines of Jim Butcher’s Dresden series. The book does a lot of things right, hitting most of the expected tropes, and I honestly wanted to like it more than I did. The series shows promise, but I had one issue with it. I didn’t really like the book’s hero, Morgan Rook. I didn’t dislike him either. I just never felt a connection to him or felt I was given a reason to cheer for him other than the simple fact that he was the main character. The story was interesting, and there is definitely much more to Rook than meets the eye. Hopefully he’s a character that will grow on me. Shawn Compton’s narration was rock solid. I was given a free review copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
