First off, this audiobook has sound effects that are absolutely not needed and actively take away from the enjoyment of the book. Even spoiling a few fights when the battle music starts before the actual fights in the story started. Secondly the main VO artist is British and this story takes place exclusively in America. And while his American accent is decent it’s not perfect and it’s occasionally tough to tell the characters apart when he is voicing them. He does an okay job apart from that.

The story itself is okay but not great. It feels like it was written by a young adult (16-25 yr old) for young adults. The main character is a young adult who somehow is the strongest and wisest on the entire planet? Even after an apocalypse that kills 90% of humans. The only adult who questions why this kid is in charge rather than a more seasoned adult or military officer is considered an asshole. The main protagonist and characters seem to act more like impulsive kids, even the adult military officers. I was hoping for some more measured adult approach viewpoint in this book but sadly that seemed lacking. It’s a fun lit rpg but far from my favorite.
