While book 5 was disappointing in a couple of areas, I decided to get Ascension, the last in this series arc, I was pleased to find that Ken Lozito restored Zack’s usefulness as a premier hacker and as a critical character to the outcome of the story. Kaylan’s character didn’t expand her psychokinesis abilities but was able to lead the Alliance forces against the Xiiginn Confederation due to her acknowledged superior capabilities by the other leaders. Athena also morphed into something beyond what the Boxen and her creators had been able to create.
I found the decision to offer Zack, instead of Kaylan, the ownership position of a corporation somewhat misplaced since his character lacked what would normally be considered as leadership qualities.
Still, the author did complete all the open issues and even left enough wiggle-room for a follow-on new series.
Jeff Hays continues to exhibit his narrating performance agility and skills in voicing many different characters and their personality traits, adding to the book’s listening experience.
