Poor attempts at forced character development just ruined this book for me. The new female character had no character of her own. Her relationship with the MC was only hinted at and nonsensical. She had no skills, no history, no motivations. She forced her way onto the ship and no one even mentioned the painfully obvious that she had no useful skills. And she pretty much does nothing but sleep with the MC and serve as something for him to agonize over and make “Women Amirite” Quips. She is not a character, just a tool for forced and poor quality character development of the MC.

And that wasn’t even the worst of it. With earth being attacked, the MC’s reaction was so tribalistic I couldn’t stop cringing through the entire book. And in the past two books he never gave any sign at all of a tribalistic mindset, in fact he often stated the exact opposite, that he didn’t feel like part of humanity. Which makes the sudden tribalism on his part even worse, more nonsensical and more cringeworthy.

And the frosting on this poop cake is the depiction of any group not Omega force. They are all shown as corrupt, bullying idiots. Especially Earth’s governments but even the alien ones. And of course they had the silly nonsensical “Is earth going to destroy itself” conversation that since I couldn’t cringe any harder I think made me pull a muscle. This book was just so freaking horrible I hesitate to continue on,
