I really enjoyed the storyline and the building of such a complex main character. The world Nikki created is unique and familiar as she weaves many of our current supernatural elements into her fantastical existence. The main character has trained her inner demon to embrace the best of humanity while controlling his natural urges for chaos and death.
Why the beating and 3 star review?
It took me awhile to finish this and thought about not finishing. This story could easily have been condensed to 7 hours and nothing would have been lost. The author continuously went in tangents for much longer than necessary. I understand the need to create tension in the reader as they anxiously await what happens next but I found that I skipped nearly 50% of the story and did not get lost. I did go back a few times but never more than three minutes of time and I was caught up.
I would prefer a shorter story that didn’t rely on extraneous amounts of detail to knowing everything about the surrounding area and other items that have little to no impact on the story.
Will I read other books by Nikki, definitely. She is truly gifted as a writer and brings a fresh perspective on the fantasy-romance realm.
