I get where they were going, I love the character set up and then attempt to write a story as a prepper who has gone too far. They kick it off by having an inventor and engineer not believing scientific analysts. If you have ever met a person like this, you know that they are tuned in and informed. Not this guy. He was clueless and unaware. Then upon the treck to the BOL

*SPOILER ALERT incoming*

they get carjacked in a gas station that was full of people before the event happens by solo bad guy who must get home to his kids by choosing a vehicle with only kids in it.

We then get to the BOL that is manned by a survivalist that is looking to spread the word about his ruthlessness by preemptively letting the community around know how willing he is to kill.

The other books by these two authors were amazing and very well done, this, however, missed the mark and looked like they tried hard to be different by simply throwing logic out the window.
