If Will Wight continues to write addicting story arcs and Travis Baldree continues to belt-out all-star performances, I’m going to have to spent inordinate amounts of time learning how to split my core into thirds and use one to keep me from becoming listless as I spend too much time on his books, refusing to get some much needed sleep.

The newly introduced construct, Dross, was ingenious. While sharing some similarities to Craig Alanson’s Skippy in Expeditionary Force it is also very different and we are able to follow its progress from barely sentient to something much more. It also is a hilarious addition to the comic relief to the novel.

One thing that is becoming abundantly clear as this story progresses is that all of Cradle’s monarchies are warrior-based to the point of suppressed empathy and a reluctant acceptance of fallen warriors, even those who have had a close relationship with.
