Honestly, I have been giving a lot of pity stars over past couple years because I have become so overly critical of everything I read lately that, well I sort of HAVE to. Otherwise everything I read would be 3 stars and I don’t like to do that to authors— especially when I know I couldn’t do better. This book made me realize why I am critical of everything I read now: Because, once in a blue moon, a book comes along that exceeds all my expectations and sets a new, higher benchmark for everything else. This is one of those books. I laughed out loud dozens of times throughout this book. There was plot consistency, smart commentary, and excellent characterization.

Randy, the character that I thought would make me cringe hard enough to quit the book eventually, turned out to be a deep, well-thought out person— not just a butt for jokes. Sam, who was painfully awkward and spineless, is still pretty much the same by the end of the book, but you can see the growth he has made and the more likable person he can become. Anna is a totally BA and stays that way throughout.

The timing of jokes is excellent with large help to the narrator who just knocks the entire performance out of the ballpark. I especially loved the “bloopers reel” at the end and it doesn’t surprise me that he enjoyed it so much.

All in all, 6/5 will definitely be suggesting this to my friends and coworkers.
