For someone who calls himself a non-scholar, Matthew Distefano covers weighty religious matters in this book with a great deal of intelligence, wit, and grace. Heretic gives a place to explore deep and pressing questions of Christian faith and consider answers that mainstream Western Christianity prefers not to discuss. Matthew makes amazing, sensible, and compelling cases for hot button topics such as LGBTQ inclusion and affirmation in the church, deeper conversations and consideration about salvation, hell, and the “wrath” of God; and facing matters of Old Testament violence, the trouble with biblical inerrancy, and problematic end times views head on. This book is intelligent, thoughtful, brave, thought provoking, and all-around wonderful.
