Warning: If you are not prepared to read the series, do not begin reading book #1. It ends with no conclusions, just leading to more in the life of apocalyptic survivors. The ending is more like the ending of a chapter, not a book ending.

Would have rated 4 stars except for 2 items that bothered me.

1. I listened to the audio version. The author did a decent job but not for this book. The author seems to have a goodie two shoes type, mid-western accent that does not fit into the drama & suspense of this book. In googling narrator, Kevin Pierce, I see he is the “go to” voice for apocalyptic books. So it must be just me who doesn’t like his reading.

2. The book keeps jumping back and forth from present day to pre disaster. I do not mind that type of writing if it helps build the suspense, or enlightens you to things relevant to the flow of the book. But there is really no reason for this back and forth. I think I would have enjoyed the story and the build up if it was written in the proper, past to present time line.

I will not be listening to another in the series, but may decide to read it instead, since it is an interesting story.
