I liked this book but there were some moments that had struggled keeping my attention. Don’t get me wrong, the action and adventuring moments were very fun to listen to and really stood out. However, those moments were spread out between some dragging settlement development. Such moments were: MC wakes up, MC eats breakfast, MC cuts wood, MC eats dinner while reviewing settlement stats, MC goes to sleep. Through in some checking of his personal stats and those of his NPCs you have a lot of what felt like filler, which slowed an interesting story down. Another issue is a somewhat abrupt ending. If it were not for the hooks in the prologue I’m not sure if I would have wanted to move on to the next book.

Jeff Hays performance is the true winner here. Some added digital enhancements to his voice for bosses made a very good performance even better.
