Sarah Puckett does a great job in bringing Hailee Raine to life. Her voice won’t have you thinking high school but if you want to be able to picture Hailee’s emotions than Ms Puckett will do that for you. Wen Ross does a great job in bringing Cameron Chase to life. He has the perfect voice that will let me know what Cameron is thinking and feeling. Ms. Puckett and Mr. Ross are the perfect pair to bring this author’s words to life.

Even though most of the characters are in high school, they act and do things that someone older might do. This is just one reason I feel this is more for the new adult. Unless you experience the story first and then you can make an informed decision about whether you feel this book is appropriate for your child. Another reason, and one thing that I had an issue with, we have someone of authority that doesn’t mind underage drinking. Good thing this is fiction because otherwise that person would be in a lot of trouble and would lose their job. But if you’re thinking your teen might like this, you could use it as a teachable moment.

I’ve read the book and now I’ve listened to it. I can’t tell you which I prefer because there may be a time where I would prefer to read it for myself. But if I’m having a busy day and lots to do, I would rather have someone tell me the story. One difference between me reading and a narrator doing it is they do a much better job at emoting what the characters are going through. I was also able to pick up on things that I didn’t notice the first time around.

When our author created this story, she also created some great secondary characters. One such character is Flick. She’s just what Hailee needs.. She’s a great sounding board as well as helping Hailee get out of her comfort zone. Jason Ford is something of an obscure character. Our author does a great job in showing how much of an aggravation he is to his stepsister. Then we have Asher. He is an experience and that’s where a narrator helps. This may be one series where I will have to have two copies – one book and one audiobook.

I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
