I was hesitant for the sole reason that I’m not generally a fan of male narrators for romance. Its easier for my brain to grasp a female narrator in a make part than it is for my brain to grasp a male narrator reading a female part. I think because women can make deep voices which can be passable but no matter what a man just doesn’t sound like a woman. At least to my brain. Others may have had different experiences but that’s why I tend to stay away from male narrators.

Joel Froomkin made it about as enjoyable as it could be though. He has a great voice and a genuine Scottish brogue (a fake Scottish brogue is just as bad as a male female!) and did as good a job as I think could have been done. I will definitely listen to him again, and will actually give listening to male narrators another try!

As for the story, it was great! There was a nice bit of drama, but not necessarily within the relationships of the couples which I really appreciate it. I don’t always like four of the relationship drama “will they be together?”, “will they break up?, “can they make it through this?”, “no don’t believe that!” This was just a couple learning that they love each other while trying to deal with a murderer! I loved all the secondary characters. I read this book because it was on sale, but its a part of a series. It was fine as a stand-alone story, but I’m sure I would have enjoyed it a wee bit more had I gotten to know the earlier characters. I may go back and listen to the series from the beginning, or I may just move forward from here, I’m not sure yet, but I do think I will revisit the series.
